As a Signet Library Wedding Photographer, I always enjoy photographing weddings at this iconic Edinburgh venue. This beautiful, relaxed summer wedding combined a ceremony at Greyfriars Kirk, a piper-led walk through the Old Town and a relaxed celebration at Signet Library with a large party of family and friends.

This stunning Edinburgh wedding venue was the perfect setting for a relaxed summer wedding. With a ceremony at nearby Greyfriars Kirk, a piper-led walk through the Old Town and a spectacular celebration inside the Signet Library, it was one of those wedding days that felt effortlessly fun from beginning to end.
The couple were planning their wedding from down south and had one very clear request when it came to photography. They didn’t want to spend hours posing for photographs all day.
With around 180 guests joining them in Edinburgh, they were keen to focus on enjoying the day and spending time with family and friends rather than disappearing for lengthy photo sessions. Their hope was that the photographs would capture the atmosphere, laughter and genuine moments that made the day unique.
As an Edinburgh Wedding Photographer, that’s exactly the kind of wedding I love to photograph.
The day began on the Royal Mile, where the bride and her bridesmaids were getting ready with the talented team from the AMMazing Team.

There was plenty of excitement, laughter and anticipation as everyone prepared for the day ahead. With bright July sunshine and views across Edinburgh’s Old Town, it was the perfect start to the celebrations. Meanwhile, the boys were being photographed at Greyfriars Kirk and greeting the guests.

A Greyfriars Kirk Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony took place at the beautiful Greyfriars Kirk, one of Edinburgh’s most iconic churches. After exchanging vows surrounded by family and friends. Afterwards, the newlyweds were greeted by a huge confetti throw and confetti cannons before we captured a handful of family photographs.

Walking Through Edinburgh with a Piper
One of my favourite moments followed immediately afterwards. Led by a traditional Scottish piper, the couple and all their guests made their way through the Grassmarket, up Victoria Street and towards Signet Library. Tourists and passers by stopped to watch, cameras appeared from every direction, and the atmosphere was incredible. It was such a fun way to bring everyone together and make the most of Edinburgh’s historic streets.

Stunning Wedding Styling at Signet Library
Guests were welcomed to Signet Library with champagne and canapés in the Lower Library while we captured relaxed candid photographs and some of the beautiful details throughout the venue.
The Upper Library looked spectacular and so colourful! Styled by Planet Flowers, the room featured two elegant long banquet tables rather than traditional round tables, creating a dramatic and very sociable setting for dinner and speeches. The florals and styling complemented the architecture perfectly and showcased why Signet Library remains one of Edinburgh’s most sought-after wedding venues.

Relaxed Wedding Photographs without Hours of Posing
Although the couple weren’t keen on spending lots of time away from their guests, we still managed to create a lovely collection of natural couple portraits from the spaces nearby. In fact, by the end of the day, the bride admitted that some of the portraits she had initially been reluctant about had become her favourites.
It’s a great reminder that wedding photographs don’t need to feel awkward or take over your day.

A Packed Dancefloor and the Perfect End to the Day
After dinner and speeches, guests enjoyed the warm Edinburgh evening sunshine outside St Giles’ Cathedral before heading back inside for the evening celebrations.

Once WooHoo Band @woohooband took to the stage, the dancefloor was packed from the very first song.
The first dance was a highlight of the evening, with the groomsmen lifting both bride and groom onto their shoulders while guests danced around them. It was the perfect reflection of the day itself, relaxed, fun and completely focused on having a good time.
Finally, Videographer Simon from Boda Productions was there throughout the day, capturing every moment alongside me & Carley, and together we documented a wedding that was full of energy, laughter and unforgettable memories.
