An intimate Dunfermline Scottish garden wedding with a Wedding Wine Box Ceremony – Johanna & Nick.
I photographed Johanna’s sisters wedding a few years ago at the Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh. It was so lovely to be asked back and to catch up with everyone again. Covid restrictions had scuppered Johanna & Nick’s original plans of marrying abroad in Majorca, so they decided to marry locally and have an intimate wedding day with close family and friends at Johanna’s family home in Dunfermline. The ceremony was at St Margaret’s Church in Dunfermline. Shortly after the ceremony we headed back to Johanna’s parents when the clouds lifted for the most glorious weather for their garden wedding reception.
Wine Memory Box
Johanna & Nick opted to have a Wedding Wine Box Ceremony during their speeches, sometimes called a Wine Memory Box. Originally, they had planned to marry in Spain (hey Covid!), as part of their Mediterranean ceremony. In some countries, the Wine Box Ceremony Ritual is an actual part of the ceremony. The newlyweds chose one of their favourite, special bottles of wine to enclose in a beautiful carved wooden box along with letters and other keepsakes to each other, then sealed in front of their guests with plans to open on their wedding anniversary! Such a lovely idea, like your very own personal time capsule!
After photographs (of course!) and plentiful glasses of champagne in the sunshine, gorgeous canapés by Wedgwood, emotional and fun speeches and Johanna and Nick’s first dance the party continued on over in Edinburgh on The Royal Mile at Wedgwood Restaurant.
September always surprises me with it’s lovely weather – a perfect month if you’re also thinking of planning for a Scottish garden wedding!
A glorious day! – Congratulations Johanna & Nick x
